I had the pleasure of testing out DLO’s TransDock Deluxe this past weekend. DLO (which, appropriately, stands for “Digital Lifestyle Outfitters”) was the second vendor from my MacWorld 2008 Tour that provided product to review, with Griffin Technology being the first. That simple fact alone earned it an extra notch on the “good rating stick.” Also included with my reviewer’s TransDock Deluxe package was an iPhone case (which I will do a brief review of later). This review is broken down into 3 sections: Packaging, Functionality & Ease-of-Use and Final Summary. This format will be used to compare this and other FM iPhone/iPod Auto Transmitters. Billed as the “All-In-One Car Solutions with Remote Control for iPod,” the product certainly lived up to its description, even surpassing at some points.
Packaging
The TransDock Deluxe came packed in a box that was 2/3rds the size of a shoebox. It was carefully assembled with no apparent waste of space. Upon opening the box, you slid a black compartment containing the product out. This folded open, the left side containing connectors, wires, adaptors and other items and the right holding the dock itself and a mini remote control. The official packaging included:
- The TransDock Deluxe
- mini Remote Control
- Steering-wheel Cradle that attaches with Velcro
- TransDock Mounting and Extender Arms that attach to a cigarette lighter
- 2 interchangeable faceplates
- iPod fit pads and inserts
- a 6-foot AV cable
- the manual
