There are a bazillion cell phone cases on the market (yes that is a real word, bazillion, my spell checker seemed to allow it). Cases are such a subjective type of thing, it is hard to say one is much better than another. What may be great for one person is not for another. I have a bunch of cases that I simply haven’t used because I have a battery/case solution that doesn’t allow another case to be put on top. No matter though, I can play with some of the cases anyway.
iSkin has a HUGE selection of cases (cell phone, computer & iPod cases) to choose from. I received a few cases to test out, namely the Vibes for BlackBerry Bold, the Revo2 for the iPhone and the Solo for the iPhone.
The Vibe has a couple of unique feature that caught my attention, namely:
- Embedded Microban antimicrobial protection
- Soft, jell-like protection
- Full access to your controls & keyboard
- Clear camera & flash guard
My wife is currently using this case on her BlackBerry (after trying a few other cases) and seems to be pretty happy with it. I did not install the “ultra-clear screen film†that comes with it (which is designed to keep the Bold’s screen scratch and scuff free).
The Vibe retails for $29.99.
The Revo2 is a soft, protective case for the iPhone but also has a clear plastic protective screen that covers the iPhone’s screen. You can optionally install a film to further protect the iPhone’s screen. There are some other features that are noteworthy:
- Microban antimicrobial protection (this is the same as what the Vibe has).
- The case is open to allow for camera, mute mode toggle switch, mic, and speaker ports
- Both the docking ports and earphone ports can actually be closed to prevent dirt from entering into those sensitive areas.
I liked the soft, “grippy†material of this case. It made grabbing it quickly and securely very easy to do. The clear plastic protection over the screen is nice, especially since it is fully removable but allows you to simply throw your iPhone in your pocket.
The Revo2 retails for $39.99
Lastly, the Solo is more on the “simple side†of cases. It consists just two pieces, the main soft/flexible body and then a clear screen guard. It does come in a variety of styles (the original Solo, the Solo FX and the Solo FX SE). Like the other cases listed here, it has the Microban protection built into the plastic. The ultra-clear plastic screen protector is fully “touch-able†so that you have the full functionality of your iPhone.
You can also add a matching XLR earphone to make your iPhone or iPod Touch “color coordinatedâ€.
The retail price of the Solo is between $22.99 and $34.99 depending on the style.
Probably the biggest plus of these cases (coming from my wife who is a “germ-freak†mother of 3 kids) is the Microban protection.

OOps, anti microbial is a new concept in cell phone skins , I have never heard of it before.
I bought an iFitz adapter from one of the hotels so that I can use my headphones (which have a really huge plug) on my iPhone. It also doubles as some protection against the huge plug bending and breaking the headphone jack. Cool.
I have just bought a second hand LG phone, I guess must go with Antimicrobial skins, as it may have many advantages (style and safety) .
