HTD Twitter List: Gadgets for Under $100

ipevo

I’m trying something new here. I am going to run a quick series where I will ask a question to the Twitter-verse and then will compile the answers in a list which I will call the “HTD Twitter List“. The list will contain all of the recommendations (within reason) of products or services that people tweet to me, as well as a quick product description, link to the product page, suggested price, Amazon link, Twitter-er who submitted it and my quick comments on it. I’m considering even throwing in a quick poll at the end of each article where you can vote on what you think the best item on the list is. Who knows where this will go. It may be wildly successful or it may just die an ugly death. I’m always open to ideas and suggestions on this. Oh…and be sure to follow me on Twitter.

So, let’s start with today’s question: “What do YOU think the coolest Gadget under $100 is?” (Original Tweet). Price that is listed is either normal retail (that I could find on their product site) or Amazon’s suggested price. For your shopping pleasure, I have linked many of the products directly to Amazon. In most cases, the Amazon price is significantly lower than suggested MSRP.

Here are the nominations:

  • iPevo PoV USB Camera
    • Description – “Virtual and Visual Communication – PoV creates a brand new experience in multi-purpose visual communication for the online environment. For all those spontaneous, create and fun-filled people and moments in life.” [Product Page]
      ipevo
    • Price: $40 – Amazon link
    • Submitted by: @iPevo
    • HTD Comments: This looks very cool for the price and would be a nice unique gift. It differs from most of the traditional webcams out there.
  • WowWee FlyTech Dragonfly
    • Description – “Harnessing the power of nature, the FlyTech Dragonfly is no ordinary RC flyer. Modeled after earth’s fastest insect, the dragonfly is a futuristic bug characterized by multifaceted LED eyes, two pairs of fluttering wing, a poweful tailrotor and an elongated body that fist in the palm of your hand.” [Product Page]

    • Price: $20 – Amazon link

    • HTD Comments: This looks like a great gadget for a boy (and older children like me – grin). You probably have to see it in action in order to truly appreciate it.
  • “$99.00 4GB iPhone”
    • Description: “4 GB iPhone for $99 – coming to a Wal-Mart near you” [Product Page]
    • Price: $99 – YEAH RIGHT!
    • Submitted by: @mzampino
    • HTD Comments: Someone was hitting the eggnog a bit hard (grin). This doesn’t exists nor do I think it ever will (at least not in the short term).
  • Audio-Technica ATH-ANC7 QuietPoint Active Noise-Cancelling Headphones
    • Description: “The Audio Technica ATH-ANC7 headphones are lightweight, compact headphones that effectively reduce distracting background noise by up to 85% while offering the superior audio quality that has made Audio Technica a worldwide leader in electro-acoustic technology.” [Product Page]

    • Price: $220 – Amazon link
    • Submitted by: @hellolawrence
    • HTD Comments: I wouldn’t mind a pair of these for my BART ride or in the office. Do they drown out kids’ screams?
  • Novo Minoru 3D Webcam
    • Description: “Meet Minoru, meaning ‘Reality’ in Japanese, the world’s first 3D webcam. Connect Minoru to your PC and he will come alive, his eyes will light up and he will be looking at you in 3D. Your friends and family can now see you in 3D over your favourite messaging program like Windows Live Messenger, Skype, AOL instant messenger, OoVoo and many others. You can also take 3D photos or even shoot 3D videos and upload them to YouTube.” [Product Page]

    • Price: $89.00 – Not available on Amazon
    • Submitted by: Sphynge
    • HTD Comments: Hard to gauge this one. Looks interesting. Not sure how the 3D part would work. Fun design (like some robot peaking over your monitor/screen).
  • Marshmallow Shooter Toy
    • Description: “Marshmallow Shooter gives you a sweet victory. The original marshmallow shooter has pump-action rapid fire that shoots mini marshmallows over 30′. The easy-to-refill magazine holds 25 mini marshmallows for nonstop action.” [Product Page]
      marshmellow_shooter
    • Price: $25 – Amazon link
    • Submitted by: @jaym
    • HTD Comments: I think I need to get a pair of these for the office. My kids would have a great time as well but it would be hard to stop them from eating the marshmallows (which you aren’t supposed to do, btw).

Pretty interesting range of gadgets on this list. For me, I think it would tip my hat to the iPevo PoV USB Cam. I’m a gadget guy and this seems right up my alley. Looks portable and useful. However, for my kids, it would be a toss up between the Marshmallow Shooter Toy and the WowWee Flytech Dragon. The Flytech Dragon in my book does qualify a bit more as a true gadget.

Which one would you vote for? Vote below!

  1. Last time I checked the Audio-Technica ATH-ANC7 QuietPoint Active Noise-Cancelling Headphones were on-sale for $98 bucks which makes them a huge steal by comparison to bose. The reviews for the Audio-Technica were about equal to Bose for the noise-cancelling. People tended to say the A-T had a wider range of sound value and the bose were a bit more limited, but fuller. So if you're a rock/pop listener the A-T's were better and Bose was better for Jazz, Classical, etc.

    Great list Michael!

  3. Yes, that is a great deal on Amazon. While I like Bose (I have some for surround sound at home), they tend to be a bit pricier. If the components and innards are the same or similar, many times it is better to go with a lesser known brand (or one that doesn't spend gobs of money on their image/advertising).

  5. Michael,

I saw the Marshmallow Shooter on the SkyMall magazine on a Southwest flight. There are other pretty cool gadgets in that magazine. People tend to ignore this magazine but if you are a gadget lover, make sure to take a look on your next flight.

BTW, if you fill a gun is not enough, you can go for the 40' Marshmallow Bazooka, http://tinyurl.com/5kzwvl

  7. Nice! Yeah, SkyMall is great for ideas but price is high. Find there and then search on Amazon I guess. I don't fly much (grin).
I don't think that my wife would forgive me if I got the Shooter OR the Bazooka for the house!
