Stocking Stuffer Time! Customized iPhone Cases by iFrogz

If you are looking for a quick “stocking stuffer” for those family members who have iPhones 3G & 3GS’s, you might want to take look at the MyFrogz by iFrogz. It’s a pretty innovative approach at designing a “custom” case for your loved ones. Sure, there are lots of iPhone cases out there (too many if you ask me!) but this one slightly differentiates itself from the others through the customizations (which can be done online OR via an iPhone application).

I was introduced to iFrogz via a CES invitation I received (since I’m a registered Blogger). Unfortunately, due to some schedule changes, I am not going to be able to attend CES 2010 in Las Vegas (perhaps next year) but the iFrogz team was kind enough to give me a code to get a free case and experience the customization.

Creating Your Case

The process is very easy. You can either use their website or download and install the MyFrogz app from the iTunes store. You are able to customize the top and the bottom color of the case using an extremely straight-forward application where you slide the color choice across the screen to get a preview of your case. There are 29 top colors/styles available and 19 colors for the bottom.

Once you are done, you enter in your address info and a few days later, you get your customized MyFrogz case (even with your name personalized on the packaging):

Here is what the iPhone application looks like (note, that you need to have an internet connection on your iPhone for the app to work…I found that it hung and quit when I had little or no internet connection):

Choose “Start Designing Your Case”

Select Black or White iPhone

You then select the top and bottom color. The top can be semi-transparent.

When you are done using the MyFrogz app, you can simply delete it as there is nothing else really to use it for (other than look at popular styles by your location or nationwide.)

You can currently only buy the iFrogz case at an AT&T store and get a customization code there. (Note: I did find them available on Amazon but the might not have the color combo you might want. From what I understand, though, the customizable cases are exclusive to AT&T and the ones available on Amazon and the iFrogz.com site are the original, non-customizable ones.) Basically, you simply buy the case virtually and then you enter in the code when you order to get free shipping of your customized case.

I was quite impressed at how quickly the case arrived after I did it online. My order was placed on December 1st and I had it by the 3rd.

The Case Itself

While I don’t currently use a case (because I have a Mophie JuicePack Air which acts as a case), I have seen and posses a wide variety of cases for the iPhone.

The MyFrogz is made of a very lightweight plastic. It has a little padding inside to slightly cushion the iPhone. Compared to some other cases, I think that the MyFrogz feels a bit flimsy and may not survive a big fall. But cases are made to protect your iPhone first and then look nice second. It does fit securely around your iPhone and it looks great!

Summary

Overall, I like the ideas that the iFrogz team came up with. The customization app and end result is unique and pretty nice. And the case looks really stylish and seems to provide adequate protection for your iPhone. If you are looking for a quick stocking stuffer or just need to have a slick iPhone case for yourself, definitely check out the iFrogz site. They are reasonably priced at $34.99 but REMEMBER, you have to go to an AT&T store to actually purchase them (or choose from what’s available on Amazon).

  1. Really cool. Too bad you have to purchase at an AT&T store. Would be much easier to purchase from iFrogz direct.

  3. I ignored my instincts and first bought a case for my Touch at the Apple Store. Didn't like the slippery feel and waited too long to return it because of my car rental coupon codes, of course. My beautiful red IFrogz cover could fit a little more snugly, but it's a keeper! And I can plug in anything without removing the case. My second purchase from you. Thank you!
