Summer Road Trip & Travel Essentials: Kids & Family TV Shows on iTunes

I’m not quite sure how any of us made it through any roadtrips alive when we were children. Many of us, like me, didn’t have air conditioning or built-in DVD players. And we sure didn’t have little personal electronic devices that could play movies and TV shows. My kids, on the other hand, each have iPods and they can fire up these mini entertainment systems whenever they want (provided they aren’t glued to it all of the time).

With Summer just around the corner, now is time to start thinking about gearing up for those long road trips or airplane trips. If you have nerves and a willpower of steel and lots of creativity and patience, you can entertain your kids for the entire trip. Or, you can actually get a little bit of a vacation yourself and let them tune out a bit on their iPods.

Summer kids TV special - HighTechDad™

My youngest daughter who is 6 is madly in love with iCarly and has probably seen every episode at least 3 times each. And, the show has pretty sucked in her older sisters (despite them saying that they aren’t into it). And, SpongeBob SquarePants is a winner among all three of my kids. So when I found out that there was a special going on over at iTunes for some of the 1st season TV shows that are hot among kids, I figured that I would pass it on.

Right now, you can get the 1st Seasons of the following popular kid TV shows at some pretty good low prices AND the first episode is FREE!

  • Hannah Montana
  • iCarly
  • Wizards of Waverly Place
  • SpongeBob SquarePants
  • Phineas and Ferb
  • Ben 10
  • Bakugan
  • The Suite Life on Deck
  • Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends
  • Dora the Explorer
  • Fetch! With Ruff Ruffman

For each of the 1st Season Series packs, you get between 13 and 26 individual shows for either $14.99 or $19.99 for the season, depending on the show! Even though many of these shows are pretty old, it’s still a great deal. And most likely, if your kids are into these shows now, they might not have seen the 1st Season of these Series.

Anyway, that is my Public Service Announcement on how to maintain your sanity during those lengthy summer car rides or other long trips. Not only do you get a bit of peace and quiet or time to actually talk to your significant other, but your kids are happy as well with their TV shows to go.

HTD says: Grab of couple of those popular kid shows at a great price before you hit the road! You will thank me later.

  1. How about overseas trips? I'm trying to figure out how to use our iPhone and if it even makes sense. I assume that listening to music or watching shows won't be a problem or cost more.

  2. You should buy and download all of the shows (and apps) before you go
overseas. You do NOT want to do any type of data related stuff while
roaming overseas. It is extremely expensive, even if you sign up for
an international data plan. You probably just want to leave it in
airplane mode. And get a plug converter!
