OpenAI Just Opened ChatGPT Health to Every US User

Summary

OpenAI expanded its ChatGPT Health feature to all US users 18 and older across every plan, including the free tier. The feature connects to Apple Health, MyFitnessPal, and medical records through hospital systems like Epic and Oracle Health. During early testing in January, users were sending 230 million health queries per week through ChatGPT. That number has since climbed to 300 million.

Why it matters

This is no longer a premium feature for paying subscribers. Free users can now bring their actual health data into ChatGPT conversations, which makes this a mainstream consumer AI story with real reach into everyday family health decisions.

HTD Says

OpenAI just put a health assistant with access to your Apple Health data and medical records into the hands of every free ChatGPT user in the US, and 300 million health questions a week tells you people are already treating AI like a first stop before calling the doctor.

While I know that many, many people use AI to search for health-related items (myself included), I’m not sure how I feel from a privacy perspective. I love being on the bleeding edge of tech and I know that so many companies know way too much about me. But I’m not sure I’m ready yet to let AI know “everything.”

I would be careful enabling this feature. While it may be good for people who might not have immediate or easy access to medical consultation, proceed with caution.
