Post image for Did You Miss Us? We’ve Been Licking Lemon Ant Butts! Cast of Dads Podcast #57

Yep, we’re baaaack! Have you ever tried to organize the lives of 5 busy dads who are dispersed across the country and time zones? The image of herding cats comes to mind. The desire to record our Cast of Dads podcast is there, the free time, however, is not. Yeah, excuses, excuses. We did manage to all get on a call about a week ago and chat through a variety of topics though, and were able to record Cast of Dads Podcast #57, “Lemon Flavored Ant Butts.”

Cast of Dads Podcast - Episode #57

I always feel that half an hour is simply not enough time to catch up and talk about the various parenting and life topics that are on our minds. In fact, Jeff and I would like to think that a little, profanity-filled, private video that we filmed together and shared with the other Cast of Dads members when he was visiting the town where I live was the impetus for us FINALLY getting back together to discuss our life activities. Perhaps if we have time, we will clean up the video and share it with y’all. However, until then, you just have to listen in on our latest podcast!

By listening, you might think that we are all a bunch of ADHD-plagued dads (well some of us are incredibly distracted, myself included). Just take a look at the topics we covered below, from light hearted parenting questions to the horror that occurred at the Boston Marathon to those “first times” at summer camp.

Post image for The Ford Fiesta Movement is Back! And Here’s My Entry! #FiestaMovement

Piggybacking on the success of the previous Ford Fiesta Movement a few years ago, Ford is re-launching the Fiesta Movement (www.fiestamovement.com) to showcase the 2014 Ford Fiesta. Ford is currently looking for “the most vibrant voices and talented storytellers to be agents in the Fiesta Movement.” So, I figured that I would throw my hat into the ring!

I do lots of car reviews and have participated in a few Ford programs in the past so being a Fiesta Agent makes a lot of sense to me. But as I watched some of the promotional materials about this year’s program, I noticed that it seemed to be geared towards a younger audience (20-somethings). So how could I make my voice be heard among the youth out there? I thought about it and realized that I have an even more rounded story (I hope).

I would not only be bringing 1 agent to the mix (me), but 5 others as well (my family). The program should really be about the experience, how a family (or individual) interacts with the Fiesta, and how it solves daily challenges and usage scenarios. So let me introduce you to my family of agents! Here’s the video (available directly on YouTube as well):

Post image for Can You Have a Love Affair with a Gadget?

“I’m in love with the iPad Mini” I proclaimed proudly to my wife.

I didn’t expect the response (well, I did in a way). “You cannot be in love with a gadget.” That was that. End of discussion.

I had been hoping to start a conversation about why I like the iPad Mini so much or why it is better than other gadgets I have played with. I guess that my opening line might work with non-materialistic goods (e.g., “I’m in love with our dog”) – but even that might sound a bit odd. I probably should have said “I love the iPad Mini.”

Being “in love” and “loving” are two distinct things. But people often are accused of being “in love” with inanimate objects like a car or with something intangible like sports. Or perhaps people are just using grammar incorrectly. My wife, however, does make a good point. You can’t be in love with technology. You can be passionate or obsessed with it…but not in love with it.

Post image for Are You Ready For Some Football and the Next Episode of the Cast of Dads Podcast?

I simply love this time of year, that of the football playoffs and the biggest game of the year, the Super Bowl! While I don’ t have that much time to really follow sports, I have spent the past 35 years in the San Francisco Bay Area and consequently am a San Francisco 49ers fan (and SF Giants as well when it’s baseball season). Also, before they moved the football season out a week or two, the Super Bowl used to fall on or around my birthday. In fact, I remember back in 1985, Super Box XIX was held in the Stanford University stadium (I grew up on the Stanford campus) and I had a birthday party to watch the SF 49ers beat up the Miami Dolphins. Every time the 49ers would score, my friends and I would rush outside to hear the stadium crowds just a mile or so away.

Because many dads like sports (and we actually have a pretty good representation of dads in the Cast of Dads since there are plenty of dads who do NOT follow sports – we give Jeff Sass grief every time we talk about sporting events), we did kick off episode 56 (“Our Picks for the Big Game“) talking about the Super Bowl (and how I know the 49ers are going to win).

But, as is typical on the Cast of Dads, we went well beyond just sports, we covered movies, summits, secret projects, illness, New Year’s and a whole lot more (see The Topics below).

I will bet you that I can read your mind…even via a blog post. Quick, think of a country (English name only) that starts with the letter “D.” Now take the last letter of that country and think of an animal that starts with that letter. Ok, now take the last letter of that animal, [...]

So there is now a meme going around after the launch of the iPhone 5 with its longer body (now with 5 rows of icons). The meme shows new pictures of the iPhone “10″ which shows a huge number of rows of icons. And there are other ones popping up as well… So, I was [...]
