Post image for Giveaway! Your First Smartphone Could Be the HTC First!

It’s been a while since I hosted a giveaway, so I thought that I would start out the Memorial Day Holidays with a giveaway holiday! If you don’t have a smartphone yet, this giveaway is for you! Or, if your child is ready for their first smartphone, you better enter. Or if you simply want a back up phone, you may want to enter as well. Regardless, courtesy of AT&T, I’m doing an HTC First Giveaway!

HTC First

As I actually haven’t had any hands-on with the HTC First (because I’m giving it away), I’m just going to speak to HTC in general. I have had several HTC phones (some for Windows and I’m currently evaluating the HTC One). HTC is known for its solid design and the First is no different. Here are some quick specs on the HTC First:

  • Facebook Home – this device is MADE for Facebook addicts!
  • 4.3″ Touchscreen – not too big nor too small
  • 4G LTE – you want a fast network? AT&T’s got it!
  • 5MP Camera – snap those great photos!
  • 1.6MP – great for seeing how your look or for some video chats
  • 1080p HD video capture – get that HD video!
  • Music Player – take advantage of the new Google All Access Music service!
  • Text Messaging – text to your heart’s content, just DON’T do it while you drive!
  • Email/Calendar/Contacts – keep up to date with all of your activities and contacts
  • World Phone – you only need one phone if you go overseas
  • Android OS – currently supporting Jelly Bean (v. 4.1) with upgrade possibilities
  • Storage/RAM – Up to 16 GB internal storage and 1 GB RAM
  • Wifi/BT enabled – 802.11 a/b/g/n (2.4 GHz)/ BT v 4.0

Oh, and one more thing, if you win this smartphone, you can get it contract-free. Sure, you could buy this phone at a discount, but then you are also locked into an extended contract potentially. The winner of this giveaway gets it contract-free!

Post image for A New Year Means New Security & a Google Nexus 7-Inch Multi-Tablet Twitter Party Giveaway with Trend Micro – #SecureNewYear

I am hoping that this New Year is already off to a great start for all of you, apart from my plumbing issues and a flu-ridden child, our family has been enjoying 2013 thus far. And as most of the celebrations should have died down by now, here’s one more that you might want to attend.

For the past year, I and several other families across the country have been participating in a program with Trend Micro, a leading global internet content management and threat security firm, called the Digital Joneses. During this year, we completed various security challenges and awareness programs where we learned new ways to protect our family’s technological assets and then shared our knowledge with our readers, friends, family and co-workers via regular articles. This past month, I wrapped the highlights of the program up in my post “13 Security Resolutions for 2013 – Follow Them or Get Hacked!” You can see my other posts from the program here.

Well now The Digital Joneses program is ending, and what better way to bring the program to a close than by having a party, a Twitter Giveaway party. And guess what? During this Twitter Party, Trend Micro is GIVING AWAY…not ONE

Post image for Get Your Game On with the PlayMG, an Android-based Gaming Device (#Giveaway Too!)

I would be surprised to find a kid that doesn’t play games on some sort of an hand-held device. They are either borrowing their parents smartphones or tablets and playing game apps there, have their own smartphone or hand-held gaming device devoted purely to gaming, or using some sort of other gaming outlet like a gaming console or a computer. This day and age, it is hard to get away from those interactive pixels and sore thumbs.

We have entered the next generation of gaming – portable, app-based game gadgets. Yes, there have been other devices that kids (and parents) have used to “get their game on” but they were single-use, meaning, devoted to games. Now we have multi-function devices, most likely a smartphone or tablet, that allows us to challenge, scheme, and interact with these flashy and simply amazing games.

A new device on the market, PlayMG, gets this (with MG standing for “MyGeneration”). But they also understand that parents need to control the experience and the purchase of the addictive games. Based on the Android operating system, the PlayMG is really designed to be purely a gaming device, allowing parents to not have to share their smartphones all of the time. It has a 4-inch touchscreen but is slightly longer due to some “handles” on either end (personally, I found this nice because I have larger hands). It’s light-weight but distinctive in its looks – you won’t get it confused with a smartphone.

WAIT! STOP! Before you read on, I’m going to be doing a giveaway to one lucky winner! Details are at the end of this article.

Post image for Be Fearless this Father’s Day – The Case Foundation Giveaway

Have you ever wanted to take a risk and not done it? I know I have. I’m a bit of a creature of habit who likes comfort. But sometimes, there is that little voice that tells you to just “go for it” and take a risk. Sometimes that voice can be your inner self and sometimes it’s an exterior voice providing you support and encouragement. Think back at your life. Who has pushed you to take a plunge or do something different? Frequently it’s a family member, a spouse or significant other or a mentor. Whomever it is, take a second to think about what would have happened had they not given you a little or big push. Where would you be now?

As Father’s Day approaches, we focus our lenses of attention on the Dads of our lives. I know that I do. And these Dads are not confined to your direct family. They can be fatherly figures and people who you look up to and respect. If you are a Dad, think about your kids. Do you give them that support, comfort and strength to enable their dreams? Being a dad is not a job nor a chore. It’s a way of life. Frequently, you have to remove your own fears and uncertainties just to be a better father. You might take a risk so that your kids don’t have to.

This Father’s Day, The Case Foundation wants to know about your story of how your dad or a dad in your life has helped you succeed through taking a risk. They have a site devoted to being fearless, with  five key elements of a “Fearless Approach:”

  1. Make Big Bets – taking the easy road in small steps leads to insignificant gains
  2. Experiment Early & Often - don’t be afraid to go first; know that even if you fail, experience matters
  3. Make Failure Matter – failure teaches – learn from it; wear your failures like a badge of honor
  4. Reach Beyond Your Bubble – share the risk through collaboration and reap the benefits through new ideas & innovations
  5. Let Urgency Conquer Fear – there is just too much work to be done to hesitate

Show me a family who hasn’t played Monopoly before and I will let you see the dinosaur I keep in my back yard. I would hazard to guess that pretty much any family has, at one point of time or another, played Monopoly. It’s a rite of passage and part of growing up. You have [...]
