WordPress Theme change in progress…

I found a great theme for my blog (as you can probably see if you aren’t just reading the feed). So, I’m in the process of updating plugin and other items within it. Hang in there, beautification is in process!

Blog updated to WordPress 2.1

You are now viewing my site on WP 2.1. It was a relatively painless upgrade (following the instructions on WordPress.org)…but I use the term “relatively” very loosly. When I first tried to run the upgrade script, I got an error (that I had seen before): Warning: main(/blahblahblah/wp-content/ advanced-cache.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: No such […]

New WordPress release (version 2.1) and other stuff

Once again, it’s been a while since I posted. I’ve been deep in “geek-dom” mainly related to Cell Phone. My wife’s old Blackberry (7100t) died so I got a Blackberry 8700c off of eBay and she is now up and running on that! It’s a great device actually. My biggest issues was a little trick […]

WordPress updated to 2.06

So, I updated my blog to 2.06…didn’t really notice anything that new or changed about it. According to wordpress.org, here is what has changed: We have a pretty important release available for everyone, it includes an important security fix and it’s recommended that everyone upgrade. This is the latest release in our stable 2.0 line, […]

Just installed Drupal 5 RC1

And I want to see if I can post my writing to the BlogAPI. This is just a test. Updated…didn’t seem to work. I need to do some digging around to figure this out. Drupal looks pretty good though. I was able to Syndicate this blog and then push over the blog posts to the […]

AppleJack for OSX (Geek Alert!)

AppleJack Menu

Next in line is a piece of software for all of the Mac users out there. I’m sure that you take good care of your mac from a maintenance perspective (you do, right?)…you install the Apple Software Updates, periodically run the Disk Repair utility, repair your permissions, and generally don’t abuse your system. There are […]

Hamachi (now LogMeIn Hamachi) – Part 1

There are lots of ways to connect to your PC nowadays. In the past, I have used simply Remote Desktop (when using Windows) and setting up port forwarding on my router to make sure that I connect to the proper machine. A lot of times, this requires a static IP (as opposed to dynamic, which […]

Software review a day (?)

It seems like recently, probably due to the holidays, that I have not been posting regularly. So last night, I made a decision (who knows if it will stick) to try to review one piece of “software” a day. I realize that it is ambitious, but I would rather make the attempt than have my […]

Dual-boot: Mac OSX and Ubuntu (Part II)

Well, I’m making this post from my 12″ Powerbook G4, wirelessly connected to the internet using Ubuntu. Yep, you guessed it, I got the wireless working. Not the most elegant of solutions, but it works. I have have a fully functional, dual-boot, Mac OSX 10.4.8 and Ubuntu 6.10 system. So, here is what I did…and […]

Dual-boot: Mac OSX and Ubuntu (Part I)

OK, I admit it…I was bored. And a bit envious of those Intel-macs that can dual boot to Windows (or run Parallels). So, I figured that I would have some fun with my 12″ Powerbook and set it up to dual boot with my favorite Linux flavor (next to OSX, of course) Ubuntu. Yes, don’t […]

How to combat Phishing Scams

Firefox 2 Phishing Warning

So, I previously posted about Phishing scams and what they look like (with screen shots). I figured that I would continue my Public Service Announcement with some tools that you can use to be sure that you don’t get “caught.” Option #1 – There is a new site that you can go and report Phishing […]

“All your base are belong to us” – 1and1.com’s version…

My grumble factor about one of my hosting providers is getting higher. I have had a series of exchanges with them about the possibility of upgrading their mySQL servers to one that is more current (and one that supports activeCollab and SugarCRM). The saga continues… First, they sent me a link to what versions they […]
