Amazon Is Building a New Phone, and the Xbox Co-Founder Is Behind It

Amazon has an internal team called ZeroOne, led by J Allard (the Microsoft veteran who co-created Xbox), quietly working on a new AI-first smartphone codenamed “Transformer.” The device is designed around deep Alexa integration for shopping, streaming, and Amazon services, and is still in development with no carrier talks started yet. A product announcement is expected sometime in the late 2026 to early 2027 window, based on the team’s stated 18-24-month timeline.

NBCUniversal and YouTube Strike Deal to Bundle Peacock Inside YouTube Premium

NBCUniversal and Google’s YouTube reached a deal to include Peacock inside YouTube Premium subscriptions in the US, starting in early 2027. The bundle gives YouTube Premium’s 125 million global subscribers access to all of Peacock’s content, including NBC Sports’ NFL and NBA coverage, Universal films, and originals like Love Island USA. Peacock currently has 48 million US subscribers. The deal also extends Peacock’s existing distribution through YouTube TV.

Amazon Files FCC Application for 5,105 Satellites to Beam Internet Directly to iPhones

Amazon filed with the FCC on July 27 to launch a new constellation of 5,105 satellites designed to deliver direct-to-device internet capable of supporting voice and full data services, not just emergency messaging. The filing comes alongside a reported deal with Apple to bring Kuiper-powered satellite connectivity to future iPhones, years after Apple turned down a similar pitch from Starlink. Amazon is also pending an $11.6 billion acquisition of Globalstar, whose spectrum licenses are needed to legally transmit directly to phones; deployment is targeted for 2028.
