What it does

AI Launcher is a WordPress plugin built for publishers, bloggers, and content creators who want to guide how readers explore their content through public AI tools. Instead of leaving visitors to invent their own vague prompts, AI Launcher adds configurable footer and article widgets that open AI assistants with structured, context-aware prompts tailored to the current page or the site as a whole.

The plugin gives site owners clean admin control over the full launch experience. Providers are managed in a dedicated WordPress interface where admins can enable or disable tools, configure provider-specific launch behavior, upload icons, control widget copy, and assign where each provider appears. A built-in prompt template system supports reusable prompt types, context-specific defaults, and safe fallback behavior so launches remain consistent even as templates or provider rules evolve.

AI Launcher also includes lightweight internal analytics so site owners can track which providers, prompt types, and widget placements readers actually use. With support for shortcode-based placement, prompt preview before launch, copy-first fallback modes for less predictable providers, and article-specific question selectors, AI Launcher helps WordPress sites turn AI-assisted content discovery into a more intentional, branded, and measurable experience.

Why I built it

While I was job hunting, I was researching a site for a potential interview. Buried at the bottom of their site footer was a small widget that launched into ChatGPT with a pre-populated prompt containing company information, and ChatGPT added more details. I really liked the idea and thought I could create my own, but differently. For starters, I didn’t want to hook into any AI service directly, since I didn’t have the funds for API calls. I also wanted two types of widgets: one for an article and one for a footer, focused more on the brand and site. I also wanted to provide various prompt types and make the prompts editable in the backend. I also wanted to let users pass the prompt directly to an AI or copy it. I also wanted to configure the providers. In the end, the plugin became quite extensible.
