Google’s big hardware event is five days away, and the Pixel Tag might end up being more immediately useful to everyday families than the Pixel 11 itself. Hold off on buying a Bluetooth tracker until after August 12. There are some big names attached to the event. And this is one month prior to Apple’s fall product event in September.
While I’m personally not part of the Google mobile ecosystem, I do follow this closely to see how the giants are approaching the mobile consumer marketplace and how their products and solutions are being positioned. I do think that the Pixel Tag is a smart move, as Apple’s AirTags have a pretty robust distribution and usage. And there are plenty of 3rd parties that are using that ecosystem.
Smartphones, watches, and (now) Bluetooth trackers compete directly with consumers’ wallets. And it all comes down to which ecosystem you are part of.
