Anthropic just gave Claude its own browser inside the Cowork desktop app, and what that means in practice is that Claude can now go find things on the web on your behalf without you having to open Chrome or copy and paste anything. While coders use things like Playwrite for end-to-end automated testing, other AI models have to fall back on screenshots of webpages (which does, by the way, suck a lot of storage).
This is one of those lifestyle improvements when working with AI, and while there are plugins you can use to hook into your AI sessions or see your chat history, integrated and embedded browsing within Claude Cowork will definitely help.
I can see the usefulness for usability and smoke testing immediately. As this is on the Cowork side, that means a lot for people who are not coding (think marketing, sales, customer service, and the like). Just be careful from a privacy perspective and with password-protected content, even though Anthropic does say that you do have control. You won’t know how deep the integration goes or how securely and privately it is stored.
