Samsung Opens AI Living Showcase at IFA 2026, Unveils Bespoke AI Washer That Cuts Energy Use 70 Percent

Year-over-year energy efficiency improvements in washing machines are the kind of slow-moving story that matters when you are actually buying one. Samsung’s going from A-65 to A-70 percent in 12 months is meaningful for anyone considering long-term energy costs when purchasing an appliance. The AI Living ecosystem framing is also Samsung’s direct answer to LG’s ThinQ Claw AI home agent, with both companies now betting that appliance intelligence and device coordination are the same product category.

Samsung is at IFA today showing a washer that cuts energy use by 70 percent compared to Class A minimum standards, which is a real number that shows up on your electricity bill, even if it will take a while before it lands in US stores at a price that competes. Yet another major appliance manufacturer is pushing further into your home-networked devices.

Folding in AI to manage efficiency is what I think AI should be used for. If you can optimize energy consumption using AI, then maybe, if enough devices have these optimizations, they can offset the tremendous AI data center energy consumption. Heck, maybe water can be optimized in the wash cycles as well, which could also help with water conservation.

But I just have to wait now for my appliances to need replacement. Ugh. Can you say “landfill optimization?”
