Google now lets your Nest devices connect to Claude and ChatGPT, and for anyone who wants their smart home to respond to the AI they use every day, that is a bigger deal than it sounds. I haven’t tested this out… yet… but it’s now on my radar since our primary smart home setup leverages Google Home.
The first step is figuring out whether Gemini can even connect to my home, I guess. And I haven’t tested that yet. If successful, connecting via MCP should be relatively straightforward. Consumers are already somewhat used to “natural language” control of smart home devices by simply speaking to Google devices. This could take it to another level, since everyone seems to be on AI chat all the time (right?).
Firing up a quick chat request, especially if you are already working on AI chat, is easy. Let’s see how it rolls out and how well it works.
