Touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro Could Arrive as Early as October

Summary

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said Apple will likely introduce its first touchscreen MacBook Pro this fall, possibly in October, with 14-inch and 16-inch OLED models. Rumored details include M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, a thinner body, and a Dynamic Island replacing the notch. The machines are reportedly being tested on macOS 27.2, expected in late October, and may carry a “MacBook Ultra” name.

Why it matters

A touchscreen Mac is a major shift after years of Apple saying no. Creators and mobile workers who edit on the road should pay attention before buying a laptop this month.

HTD Says

A touchscreen MacBook Pro is the thing Apple swore it would never build, so if you are about to buy a new Mac, hold off a few weeks and see. I have mixed feelings about this. For starters, having repaired many MacBook Pros in my day, this is just one more thing to go wrong. But typically, if you have screen issues, there is nothing to fix. You just replace the screen entirely (which isn’t easy if you are DIYing it – I’ve done that years ago).

Also, having a touchscreen display will definitely add to the already high cost of a good MacBook Pro. I’m so used to NOT having a touchscreen; I would rather spend that extra money on more RAM or a better CPU. But that’s just me.

Lastly, wasn’t that the whole idea behind getting an iPad Pro? With a keyboard and trackpad, it’s almost a touchscreen MacBook Pro (just without the CPU, RAM, and storage). It’s becoming a fine line.
