OpenAI Launches GPT-6 in ChatGPT With “Intelligent UI” That Answers With Buttons, Charts, and Mini Tools

Summary

OpenAI is rolling out GPT-6 to ChatGPT, starting with paid plans and then Free and Go users the next day. The headline feature is Intelligent UI, which lets ChatGPT reply with tappable buttons, forms, charts, and small tools like calculators instead of a wall of text. OpenAI says it also starts answering faster, about 44% sooner on search questions than GPT-5.6 Instant.

Why it matters

This changes what a ChatGPT answer looks like for 1.2 billion weekly users, and it will shape how everyday people plan trips, compare products, and fill out forms with AI.

HTD Says

ChatGPT is shifting from a chat box to an app that builds itself around your question, and regular people will notice that change. But who is “regular” these days when it comes to AI? I was a bit confused by this announcement, as I have been using GPT-6.1 Sol Medium for my app building in Codex lately.

It turns out this release is specific to ChatGPT (Codex has different models). If you just leave your settings on ChatGPT Chat (not Work) set to Instant, you should be hooked into GPT-6 and can use many of the features outlined in the OpenAI announcement. I believe the other levels (Medium and High) still use GPT-6, and you can confirm which model you’re using by clicking the arrow next to the level.

The best thing to do is try different levels in ChatGPT Chat and see how the responses turn out. But keep an eye on your usage levels. That is always the unknown with new models and the levels within those models.
