If your kids ever borrow your phone, turn on this ChatGPT setting today, even though it is a screen lock, not real encryption. I’m surprised at how much personal information people dump into AI (myself included). This feature puts just a small layer between information or conversations you feel are private and the “prying eyes” of your friends or family.
Of course, once you put something in this mini vault, those same prying eyes may wonder what you are hiding, which could spark all sorts of additional conversations. A better rule is to be careful about what you share with ChatGPT so you don’t need to use this feature at all.
But the more important thing to remember is that while these protected chats don’t feed into the regular ChatGPT memory guidance, it is unclear how the LLM itself might still use them.
