Apple’s OLED iPad mini Arrives With an A20 Pro Chip, a $699 Price, and a November 6 Ship Date

Summary

Apple announced a new iPad mini with an 8.5-inch OLED display, the A20 Pro chip, and a 5.4 mm body. It starts at $699 for Wi-Fi and $849 with cellular, adds a nano-texture glare option, and launches with the next generation of Apple Intelligence and Siri. Pre-orders open October 28, and it ships November 6.

Why it matters

The iPad mini is the tablet families toss in a bag, and this is the first time it gets an OLED screen and a nano-texture option. The price is also higher than the last model, which will factor into holiday gift plans.

HTD Says

Apple dropped the iPad mini a couple of days before its big Mac event, and this gorgeous little OLED tablet, priced at $699, will be a hard-to-resist holiday gift. I do have a secret love for the iPad Mini. I got one many, many years ago and thought that it was perfect on so many levels. For starters, the price was quite reasonable, since it cost less than an iPad Air or iPad Pro. The form factor was also perfect for on-the-go use. You can toss it in a bag or binge-watch your shows in bed at night.

Fast forward to today, and I still have my poor old iPad Mini, but it is super slow and has little storage. But it is perfect as the DJ station for outdoor parties. I connect it to my Bluetooth speaker, install Apple Music, and it’s become my easy streaming station.

My go-to right now is my iPad Air, which I think has the perfect form-factor and performance combo (though it’s showing its age, too). I don’t see a new iPad Mini in my future, but for a family, I think the new Mini is a winner as a shareable device!
