Claude Can Now Analyze Your Spending With a New Personal Finance Tool

Summary

Anthropic is testing a Personal Finance hub inside Claude for US Pro, Max, and Ultra subscribers. Through Plaid, you can link bank accounts with read-only access and ask Claude to flag surprise fees, double charges, and bills that crept up, plus build spending charts and budget breakdowns. Anthropic says the hub has no ads and that conversations inside it are not used for model training.

Why it matters

Everyday people already ask chatbots about money, and this is the first version built around real account data with clear privacy limits. It also directly answers ChatGPT’s finance feature.

HTD Says

Handing your bank login to a chatbot is a big ask, so check the read-only access, the two-year transaction limit, and the no-training promise before you hit connect. While I’m like many who ask financial (and health) questions of AI in the hope it simply disappears into the ether later, I know this information is stored somewhere and used somehow.

Having a portion of AI dedicated to finance (and health) matters, and I sincerely hope the guardrails and barriers Anthropic (and OpenAI) put in place for these types of conversations are more robust than in traditional chats.

That said, understanding your finances more deeply can be extremely helpful. You can’t just ask your bank statement to analyze your spending trends, develop a budget, or (potentially) help you invest more wisely. But with this type of tool, you might be heading down a better path to do so.
