iPhone 18 Pro pre-orders open Saturday at 5 AM Pacific, and the variable-aperture camera is the spec to understand before deciding whether the Pro is worth it over the standard model. While the iPhone Duo seems to be grabbing all of the attention right now, I would think a lot of people are priced out or the Duo isn’t the best use case for them.
The features that stand out to me are the greatly upgraded cameras, especially with a variable aperture. This will be a game-changer for users who use their iPhones primarily as a camera (all of my videos and product photos, and yes, family and friends’ photos rely on my iPhone). Is it compelling enough to jump from an iPhone 17 Pro? Maybe. Earlier versions, probably more so.
The other features that jump out to me are the extended battery, the vapor cooling chamber, and the more powerful A20 Pro chip (to consume all of that AI usage).
