Leaked Code Shows What Siri AI Will Look and Sound Like on HomePod

Leaker pdfu found that HomePod’s audioOS 27 software already contains Linwood, the system behind Siri AI, along with a new Siri sound and redesigned status lights in white, blue, and orange. The feature isn’t available to users yet. Apple never mentioned Siri AI for HomePod or Apple TV in June, which strongly suggests it will require new hardware expected this fall.

Why it matters

The HomePod is the center of many Apple smart homes, and Siri has been its weakest link. If Siri AI is locked to new hardware, current owners will soon face an upgrade decision.

The smarter Siri is clearly coming to the HomePod, but I would bet good money your current HomePod won’t be getting it, so hold off on buying one this month. This is the typical hardware+software upgrade route. “Amazing” new features are developed, but they will only run on the latest and greatest hardware.

I am guessing that I, like others, already have firmly established smart home setups tied to a particular provider. My primary one is Google Home, but I have Amazon and tiny bits of Samsung and Apple in the mix. Would I integrate the new HomePod into my environment? Absolutely. But only if someone provided it to me for free (wink wink), since I can’t upgrade my hardware every time a new feature comes out that is only supported on the new hardware.

But I am super curious to see what innovations will come with a “new” Siri tied to an “updated” HomePod.
