Letting an AI spend your money sounds convenient right up until it buys the wrong thing, so watch how much approval these agents ask for before you switch them on. This announcement comes alongside (not too subtly) the recent launches of ChatGPT Dots and Meta’s Muse.
Previously, you would send agents out to shop for you, and you would have to review carts or product selections. Now, assuming you have given permissions, these shopping agents can complete the transaction, even more easily if the eCommerce site is powered by Shopify (and Shopify has approved the site for AI shopping agents).
Something about the art of the hunt is going to be lost here. My wife loves shopping in person to find deals. With this kind of frictionless online shopping, I fear that hunt will disappear.
