Anthropic’s “simplifying” Claude into a “single app” is a great move. Folding Docs and Slides into the same window at launch makes this more than a navigation cleanup. I have personally struggled to figure out where my projects or chats were, where to resume work, and which “activity” to choose.
OpenAI did this a while ago as well, folding Codex into ChatGPT. Anthropic still offers Claude Code (Command Line Interface – CLI) separately for true coders who live and breathe the CLI. But Claude (desktop) has a toggle between chat and code, so that is pretty intuitive. ChatGPT has a dropdown that does the same thing (chat or code).
Simplification for the end user will help with adoption. If users are confused, they won’t use it. If things become consolidated and (gasp) integrated, and they have contextual knowledge across sessions, that will be a huge usability improvement.
