ChatGPT Voice Can Now Use Your Plugins and Run Work Tasks From Your Phone

OpenAI added plugin support to ChatGPT’s live Voice mode on the web, iOS, and Android, so you can pull in email, calendar, Slack, and other connected apps during a conversation. Plus and Pro subscribers can also use the Work tab on their phones by voice to draft documents, write emails, or summarize Slack threads, while Free and Go users get plugins and connected apps. You can pick up conversations started on the go later on desktop.

Why it matters

Voice is becoming a real way to get work done, not just a way to ask trivia questions. Anyone who drives, walks the dog, or juggles kids can now hand off actual tasks without typing.

If you have been waiting for the moment when you could say “summarize my Slack and draft a reply” while walking to the car, ChatGPT just got a lot closer to making that normal. Voice prompting has far less friction than manually typing commands, prompts, or instructions. We have become more used to dictating text or messaging than typing. Now OpenAI is making it easier.

I have said before that I’m a bit of a purist and still type all of my prompts. I enjoy the physicality of connecting directly with my keyboard. Heck, my wife still misses her BlackBerry and the physical keyboard. But she is using WhisperFlow for a lot of her work while I am still typing things out. I simply don’t want to lose that writing connection.

But I do expect more AI services to become voice-enabled. It is a logical extension and will definitely increase AI usage from a consumer standpoint. I’m not quite there yet.
