Turns out burying a feature three menus deep is a great way to make sure nobody uses it, and that lesson applies to every AI feature Apple ships from here on. Yes, I went through those menus to enable it since I was already a ChatGPT user. But I have to say, I barely punched through from Siri to ChatGPT. I either use Siri for very easy, iOS-related tasks or use ChatGPT for my regular AI work.
Even with iOS 27.2 (I’m on the Dev beta), I still go straight to my AI products for AI tasks. However, Siri Intelligence has gotten a LOT better, honestly. And even though I still have ChatGPT configured in Siri, I’m guessing it’s not really being used (and I don’t have an easy way to check).
Apple, now using Google AI, I believe, should focus on using 3rd-party AI as an underpinning, deep in the OS, and not surface handoffs or integration to the end user (who, I believe, doesn’t really care). Users just want AI to work on their Mac products. Only we geeky users want to know how it is being implemented and used.
