ChatGPT Can Now Virtually Try On Clothes for You, Using Your Own Selfie

Summary

OpenAI added a “try on” button to ChatGPT shopping results. You upload a selfie or full-body photo, or a screenshot of an item from any website, and ChatGPT shows you how it would look. A new Favorites library saves products and try-on images, and both features launched globally on October 1 and run on the new ChatGPT Images 2.5 model.

Why it matters

This AI shopping is aimed at regular people, not developers, and it follows OpenAI’s earlier instant checkout push, which underperformed. It also means many people will hand over personal photos.

HTD Says

ChatGPT wants to be your fitting room now, and before you upload a full-body photo, check where those try-on images get saved, because they live right next to your Favorites. I’m not sure I’m going to mention this feature to my wife and girls. Yes, I have privacy concerns, but I also worry about my shopping budget suddenly exploding.

The interesting thing is, this isn’t really a “new” type of feature. There have been apps that do this for a long time, some good, some bad. Regardless, use cases like this are going to be rolling into AI more rapidly now. It’s almost as if AI is moving toward becoming a walled garden, or even an operating system (think Apple here).

I probably won’t be using this feature. I just bring my wife along, and she quickly tells me if something is good or bad for me; no AI needed.
