Netflix Is in Talks to Bundle Peacock and Fox One Inside Its App

Summary

Netflix is exploring whether to distribute competing streaming services directly through its app, according to multiple reports published this week. Peacock and Fox One are both in early discussions with Netflix about a deal modeled after Amazon Prime Video Channels, which already accounts for around 60 percent of all specialty streaming subscriptions. Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters described results from a similar arrangement with France’s TF1 as “promising.” No deal is imminent, but the conversations mark the first time Netflix has seriously considered becoming a subscription aggregator rather than a pure standalone service. An analytics report found that third-party streaming signups have grown roughly 60 percent over three years.

Why it matters

If Netflix becomes a streaming hub, it changes how most families manage their video subscriptions. Instead of tracking five separate apps and billing accounts, you could handle everything through a single interface. If you are already sorting through streaming subscription overload, this is the kind of structural shift that could either simplify or further concentrate the market.

HTD Says

Netflix is reportedly exploring becoming your one-stop streaming subscription hub, with Peacock and Fox One in early talks about being distributed through the Netflix app the same way Prime Video Channels works today. This is yet another example of streaming services bundling or consolidating offerings into a single platform. While it may be easier for the consumer to manage a single account, we will see whether the consolidated pricing actually offers any long-term discounts.

I’m guessing that services like Netflix (or Amazon) will initially offer discounted bundled services (think Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN), but once the dust settles, pricing will creep back up to a normalized threshold and won’t really offer much of an advantage beyond consolidated billing. I will be curious to see how creative these streamers become in capturing and retaining customers.

And… are we back in the cable days again? Sure feels that way.
