I wish a WordPress Developer would make the following plugin
I'm not a developer, more of a tinkerer, looking at people's code and tweaking things. Never had an hour of coding schooling in my life but I can step through some stuff and get the jist of it and even mod it to my own liking (fixed a few WP theme issues and plugins). There are a couple of plugins…

Anniversary: 2 years of Blogging!
I can't believe that I have been blogging for (only) two years. Tomorrow will be the 2 year anniversary of this incredibly information-filled post. I think that I have progressed a lot with the quality of my posts. Blogging has really become a passion for me, as I tried to quickly articulate on Blog Action Day but it goes further…

Today is Blog Action Day – October 15th
October 15th is supposedly Blog Action Day. What is that exactly? Well, from my understanding it is a day that is to highlight the power that is "blogging." For me, I'm coming up on 2 years of blogging about Technology, Gadgetry, Software and Hardware and how it relates to my life as a father. However I note that many of…

Blog: TechDadBlog updated to WordPress 2.3 with some issues
I took the plunge and installed WordPress 2.3. For the most part, it was pretty straight forward. Do follow the standard upgrade instructions (including deactivating your plugins). I didn't do that and left the Ultimate Tag Warrior enabled. After running the upgrade.php, I had issues still, referencing UTW. So I went to the plugin directory and deleted the plugin manually.…

Pirate Humor for Official “Talk like a Pirate Day”
What fun would it be without some Pirate Humor on official "Talk like a Pirate Day" (TLAPD). Some (if not most) of these are true groaners but what the heck. It will also be interesting to see how my WordPress plugin for TLAPD translates these jokes! On with some jokes (don't make me walk the plank on these, I didn't…

For all of you new iPhone and iTouch users out there, this blog has been updated with a new theme (yes ANOTHER theme) that is specifically optimized for viewing on an iPhone or iTouch. WordPress: People can view your Plugin Folder unless you fix!
As I was working on the update to my blog theme, I found a security hole that I think has existed for a long time in WordPress. While not incredibly devastating, nor directly tied to "code" within WordPress, it is a hole that is very easy to fix. The concern is more with KNOWING the types of plugins that a…

WordPress update: Version 2.2.3 released with Security Fix
Just updated my blog with WordPress version 2.2.3 (haven't taken the plunge with the beta version 2.3 yet but I am working on a new theme). The 2.2.3 version is just a security release that they recommend people upgrade to, especially regarding two high-priority bugs. The following bugs were closed: 3002 - On Windows machines register_activation_hook() does not work if…

PC: Nice blogging software from Microsoft – Windows Live Writer
I'm writing this using Microsoft's latest beta of their blogging software called "Windows Live Writer". There are lots of ways to do blog posts out there, from using the built-in blogging tools, to using Word 2007, to using programs like Ecto. All have advantages and disadvantages, unique and common features. Now I will add Windows Live Writer into the mix.…

WordPress updates code to 2.2…and I follow
First post under WordPress 2.2. Did some rookie moves when I did the upgrade (thought I remember what I needed to do) and forgot to push the wp-includes directory. Here are highlights of what changed (aside from the 200+ bug fixes/feature upgrades). Widgets - you can get rid of your Sidebar Widgets plug-in by Automattic, Inc., it's now included. Widgets…

Blog updated to WordPress 2.1
You are now viewing my site on WP 2.1. It was a relatively painless upgrade (following the instructions on WordPress.org)...but I use the term "relatively" very loosly. When I first tried to run the upgrade script, I got an error (that I had seen before): Warning: main(/blahblahblah/wp-content/ advanced-cache.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /blahblahbla/wp-settings.php…
