June 2010

A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of attending the Intel Upgrade Your Life” 2010 Summit (my announcement) which was a gathering of a variety of technology influencers and bloggers. At this summit, we were introduced to a number of different individuals representing different initiatives within Intel.

There were 10 of us invited to participate in some very intimate discussions and conversation related to a variety of aspects of Intel. After the 10 hours of intensive meetings, my brain truly hurt from all of the information that I absorbed.

There once was a challenge from AT&T,
That made my brow a bit sweat-y.
To write about shopping,
Got my brain really hopping,
As I wrote on my Tilt 2 by HTC.

The challenge was there for 30 days,
My writing contained many a phrase.
“Lose the Laptop,” they said,
“Use the Tilt 2 instead,”
And my writing was creative and ablaze.

The challenge for June was shopping,
Making calls on the phone with no dropping.
The family I shopped for,
As I passed through the door,
Made sure that my battery wasn’t stopping.

Shopping with a cell phone is quite fun,
It is helpful when you’re on the run,
With HTC Tilt 2s,
You can plow through to-do’s,
And talk to your friends when you’re done.

The voting for the challenge ends soon,
So be sure to get your votes in by noon,
Vote for me, if you please,
You can do it with ease,
And if you win, you will get a balloon!

As all 5 of the us on the Cast of Dads have recently recovered from Father’s Day, with a variety of good times and adventures, we spent some time discussing something that “cuts close” to our Dad-dom, that of “The Big Snip”. Can you guess how many of us on COD have actually had the procedure done? It’s an obviously appropriate topic for a Dad podcast, and especially appropriate right after Father’s Day, so we “cut” right to the chase in Podcast #24.

But we couldn’t spend the entire time on that topic alone. Each of us had different Father’s Day experiences and, of course, we had to dive into a bit of tech (specifically the new Apple iPhone 4 and iOS4), as we waited for Daddy Brad to join the podcast (he had a good excuse this time, he was working on a play structure for his kids).

The Topics

Here is what we bantered about (over a few beers) on Episode 24:

As the sliding glass door closed, I knew that something was wrong. But I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. I hoped the feeling of the unknown would pass but for some reason, it only helped to raise my panic level a bit more.

The lights burned in a clean magnesium fire brightness, rows of orderliness behind steel grills in the ceiling. Their brilliance, though cool, caused a bead of sweat to appear on my brow, or was it because of something else? The doors slid behind me as I embarked on my mission.

I started walking up and down the rows, at times stopping to look or read, and other times to try to remember. Each row was unique, carefully arranged and categorized and labeled. There was definitely enough information there but perhaps it was too much. It verged on being overwhelming.

My stride, which had started as a slow amble, had changed to a quicker meter almost on its own. By the time I hit the middle row, I was walking briskly, glancing side to side as I went. By that time, my brow was wet with perspiration and wrinkled with frustration. I still had not found it. My memory had failed as well.

How To Get 48 Applications in the iPhone Dock using iOS4

June 22, 2010

Quite possibly my favorite new feature coming out of Apple’s iOS4 iPhone software update is that of folders. I had maxed out the number of screens on my iPhone and every time I added new applications, I either had to delete one that I didn’t use much or had to use the Search functionality to [...]

Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin Mini Pounds Out a MAXI Amount of Quality Sound as an iPod Speaker System

June 16, 2010

I’m back with yet another iPhone/iPod speaker review. But wait, before your eyes glaze over, you really should read what I have to say. This time around, I tested out the Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin Mini, which is sort of the baby brother of the Zeppelin (which I personally think is a bit too wild [...]

Beer, Beer & More Beer (And Father’s Day Stuff) – Cast of Dads Podcast #23

June 15, 2010

Who says that we can’t do a Podcast on a Monday? Well, I guess that I did last week but that was during the day. For our “Happy Father’s Day” episode of Cast of Dads, we did our recording a bit later on a Monday, and lubed up our voices, creativity and topics with a [...]

The Sony Dash – Not Just a Fancy Clock Radio – An Internet Connected Appliance! (Sony Giveaway too!)

June 15, 2010

My wife now has a digital companion as she puts on her make-up or gets ready for the day in the bathroom. Carefully positioned on her makeup table is a small, digital screen that looks like a clock radio. But it is much more than that! The Sony Dash, formerly known as the “Chumby” is [...]
