Post image for A New Olympic Sport? The Orangutan Hang! – Cast of Dads Podcast #53

As the summer starts to wind down, the Cast of Dads convened via the phone waves again to record another laughter-fill and educational podcast, “Orangutan Hang and the Olympics.” With just days to the start of the Summer Olympics 2012 in London, we believe we might have figured out another Olympic sport – the Orangutan Hang – but you will have to listen to the podcast to understand what it was all about.

Episode #53 ran the gamut of topics, anywhere from talking about DEET, West Nile Virus and popping mosquitos, to really enjoying Olympic warmups understanding driving distractions and memories of time past. For me, my thoughts were around an upcoming solo ballet performance of my oldest daughter in a fundraising gala hosted by the Dizzy Feet Foundation. As of the writing of this article, the gala has taken place and it was a huge success. For those of you who like So You Think You Can Dance, you might recognize the people below:

If you didn’t, they are Twitch, Allison and Lil’  C. And my daughter’s gala ticket was sponsored by Summer Glau:

Post image for Getting Scruffy for Movember – “Real Men Will Grow a Mo” – Cast of Dads Podcast #46

We are halfway through November, I mean “Movember,” and I’ve got this itchy feeling on my face, as do a few of the other dads on Cast of Dads. Why? Because we are donating our liplines and faces to the Movember effort. You can see my post about it here. While I definitely am not quite sporting the crazy mustaches that Brad or Max are doing (and I don’t have the social influence that CC has), I certainly don’t look like my normal self. My dad actually likes it, despite in the past wanting to pay me to shave off any facial hair that I grew. So, in the #46th episode of Cast of Dads, “Real Men Will Grow a Mo” we talk a bit about Movember as well as a lot of other hot topics like Thanksgiving, Penn State, the Occupy Movement, Rick Perry, Herman Cain, Incognito mode and much more.

Post image for Getting Saucy on Cast of Dads Episode #45 “Dads CAN Cook Even When Sauced”

We had quite a few topics stewing to be discussed on Cast of Dads Episode #45 “Dads CAN Cook Even When Sauced“. For starters, we had a conversation about a social media campaign that tried to use modern day social media tactics but using a very old and outdated stereotype, that of Dads not being able to cook and having to rely on bottled alternatives. The funny thing is, we actually DO use bottled alternatives when cooking, just that they tend to be alcohol-based and we drink them while we cook from scratch!

I made it a point to be actually cooking from scratch (see the picture below) when recording this podcast. I think what irritated us most was the fact that one of the reasons why the 5 of us dads get together regularly to record our show is to refute many of the stereotypes typically associated with dads and parenting. Dads are involve more than ever with the upbringing of our children and we get together to discuss these changes and how to become better parents in the process. Another thing that we are extremely tired of is getting “mommy-centric” PR pitches which we regularly receive. But that is a topic for another, on-going discussion.

We got into a lot of other saucy topics in the podcast, with our usual creative banter. But you will just have to listen to the show to hear those! [click to continue…]

Post image for “Mother Nature is in a Bad Mood” – Cast of Dads Episode #44

Ok, school has started for most of us and I realize that we have some homework to do. That is, the Cast of Dads do since we seem to be sputtering along trying to get back into a regular recording groove. “The dog ate my homework” isn’t going to work for us. Maybe, “we just had an earthquake” or “we are preparing for a hurricane” does work though. In Episode 44 of the Cast of Dads, “Mother Nature is in a Bad Mood,” we talked about how when Mother Nature decides to get upset, we all suffer.

I think that there is a reason why they don’t call it Father Nature, and no offense to the mothers out there but, when dads get in bad moods, we normally don’t go on a rampage. And on the flip side, moms typically have a much more nurturing side to them, and bring life into existence. Dads are pretty much just there to help.

Speaking of dads, I was able to finally meet another member of the Cast of Dads, Max Kalehoff, when I was out in New York this summer. Personally I just love the carefully placement of the “and” in the photo!

When Can You Have “THE Talk” with Your Kids? – Cast of Dads Podcast #39

February 18, 2011

Wow, back-to-back Cast of Dads podcast posts! I guess we are slowly getting back into our groove. Episode #39, “Having THE Talk” was focused on pretty much one thing – having “the talk” with your kids. While some of the Cast of Dads have kids still in diapers, others have graduated to the parenting of [...]

The Cast of Dads Podcast is now a Feisty 1 Year Old!

December 23, 2010

Episode 37 was an important show for the Cast of Dads. It represented an anniversary, or perhaps more appropriately said, a birthday. As we are all dads in the podcast, parenting is a core component of our daily lives. A year ago, the five of us gave “birth” to the podcast and almost every week [...]

“For the Love of Thighs and Breasts” – Cast of Dads Podcast #35

November 22, 2010

Well, the last episode had some gremlins doing a number with CC’s voice. And there is actually now a “missing episode” of Cast of Dads that never even made it to production…the same gremlins were at play. But we recorded Episode #35 “For the Love of Thighs and Breasts“ just in time for Thanksgiving. So [...]
